ABOUT US

Set up in 1993 as a way of getting some of my music collection out of the house, The Last Record Store has stuck to its vision of providing a selective specialist music store stocking anything that’s loose, honest, rootsy, rockin’ and real – from the old, weird stuff to the latest releases that fit the bill – from singer-songwriters, folk music, country and Americana in all their myriad styles, old-time stringband music, to jazz, blues, soul, African and world music, to rootsy rock and reggae.

We also like to showcase the best in local independent releases fitting this style, along with a range of Australian Aboriginal music, both of which are a feature of this site. Check our home page for news of upcoming live instores and new releases of interest.

We are also able to offer a wide diversity of choice by being committed dealers in second-hand records, CDs and DVDs, and we turn up a lot of rare and interesting stuff. Call or e-mail for more information, bring in your old music for cash, or trade it for something new – please bring appropriate I.D.

We're open:
Monday to Friday 10am - 6pm
Saturday 10am - 5pm

We accept: Cash, EFTPOS and all major Credit Cards

LATEST NEWS -

INTERNATIONAL RECORD STORE DAY - SATURDAY 19th APRIL

A group of independent record stores around Melbourne, including ourselves, Basement Discs, Greville Records, Missing Link and Collector's Corner, all plan to celebrate International Record Store Day on Sat. 19th of April - an initiative where hundreds of independently owned and operated music stores around the world will celebrate their culture and the unique role they play in so enthusiastically promoting and introducing music into their communities.

We'll be celebrating by hosting live instore performances by the mighty SIME NUGENT at 2 p.m., followed by FIRESIDE BELLOWS ( Melbourne's own Jordie Lane, and Tracy McNeil, who hails from Toronto, Canada). Every customer on the day will go into a draw for a Last Record Store Gift Voucher, and we'll do our best to keep you happy and snacked up.

SO - hope to see you on Saturday, and remember --- "If we lose the independent record store, we lose big. Every time you buy your records at one of these places,it's a blow to the empire." Henry Rollins

"Independent record shops are like a casino where you put down your money and you always win." kt Tunstall

"You cant roll a joint on an iPod - buy vinyl." Shelby Lynne
