SANDILANDS
"WATERHOLE" $25
Mick Cameron, of Headbelly
Buzzard fame, on guitar, dobro & vocals, along with fellow
Buzzard Craig Woodward on banjo-mandolin and Melbourne folk-scene
luminary Tony Hargreaves on accordion, combine to deliver an album
of Mick's original tunes - songs of procrastination, cards, driving
all night, bus prangs, small towns (if you've ever lived in a small
rural community you've gotta hear "Granny Died Playing The
Piano"!) - country blues, hollers, waltzes and more, all delivered
in Mick Cameron's extremely laconic style. A record of great charm,
wit and beauty.

Marni has now released an album of her own material - songs which
touch the heart the soul and the funny bone. Critters & Specimans
is an album which takes a musical journey through Marni's years
as a musician - from folk/pop to country, r&b and contemporary
styling." Visit www.sheehanmusic.com

KERRI SIMSPON "MAYBE BY MIDNIGHT" $15
"Kerri Simpson has gone up the country. In the nicest possible
sense. Call it alt country, call it country roots, call it what
you like, there is no mistaking the deliberate venture into new
territory. And it is simply brilliant! I have never heard a voice
more obviously suited to the genre. There is power, there is light
and shade, there are tinges of pure emotion and vocal edges that
would please Ms Patsy." John Carver PBS FM

"SUN GONNA SHINE" $25
"VODOU - SONGS OF THE SPIRITS" $30
"THE AROUSING" $20
"SPEAK" $20
"VEVE" (EP) $12

THE SOMERVILLES "LOVE, LOSS & MURDER"
$25
Hot new release from local bluegrass band fronted
by banjo legend Peter Somerville, who has played with more people
than many of us have had hot dinners, along with king-hell dobro
wizard Pete Fidler, Alex Aronsten who plays great guitar and writes
and sings songs that wouldn't sound out of place on Gram Parsons/Rick
Roberts-era Flying Burrito Brothers albums, and Rod Boothroyd, who
keeps it all earthed with his double bass. New originals from all
band members, including a couple of beautifully appealing instrumentals
from Peter Somerville and Pete Fidler, shared vocals, some great
covers, tight harmonies and some blistering picking (there's nothing
quite like the sound of 21 strings all going like buggery in perfect
unison - except perhaps 29 -) along with good humour and great feel
in abundance. Unreservedly recommended!

C. W. STONEKING "KING HOKUM" $25
The most startlingly original album anybody's heard
this year! There's a lot of wierd shit being thrown around about
this record and some of it's true, but rest assured, it's real!
Recommended big time!

LIZ STRINGER "PENDULUM" $25
ALSO AVAILABLE:
"SOON" $25
Sensational album from another hugely talented
young local, and one of the strongest debuts I reckon I've heard
in - well, just about ever! Liz Stringer is a strong and beautifully
expressive singer, a gutsy guitarist, plays fearless banjo and soulful
harmonica, and writes great songs of dark beauty - sweet, sad, soulful
and scary, hard-won and very moving. This is an album of great emotional
resonance - compelling, captivating and as addictive as hell.
